Wakana — tatami and lanterns

TATAMI · LANTERNS · TEISHOKU · SINCE THE ALLEY

i had teishoku at wakana

Wakana is a Japanese restaurant and casual bar in a Le Thanh Ton alley, District 1.

From the alley at night: red and white paper lanterns, a cherry-blossom noren reading わかな, yellow chrysanthemums, the 15A/32 WAKANA plaque and a standing menu board.

Step in: tatami rooms with low tables, green cushions, a Mt Fuji and cherry-blossom mural; the same address also holds the CASUAL BAR WAKANA with its glowing sign.

And the food is the teishoku set: grilled mackerel or meat, rice, miso soup and small sides on a tray — plus hot udon, a sizzling iron plate of pork, and an izakaya table of shared plates.
