Be An — the vegetarian bistro of arches and bamboo light

Vegetarian bistro · District 1 · 11B Trần Cao Vân

Be An needs no long telling: past the open front is one warm corner — a big arched window full of plants, a backlit BE AN sign, terracotta brick walls with a bamboo pendant cluster glowing amber, wood tables with celadon bowls. In the middle of that warm room, the dish mentioned most is the shared vegetarian hot pot.

The bistro sits at 11B Trần Cao Vân, Sài Gòn ward, District 1, on a corner with a warm beige plastered facade. The big arched glass window full of plants sits beneath the backlit BE AN sign reading “Vegetarian cafe/bistro”, and the open front leads to terrace tables — small wooden bistro sets under the street tree.

Inside, a high white vaulted ceiling and arched openings lead to quieter rooms: a back room with a cushioned banquette, rattan chairs, bamboo ceiling panels and arched floor lamps, and a side room with round tables, a curved woven rattan screen divider and brick-patterned floor tile. Wood tables, rattan-back chairs and woven seats, celadon bowls pre-set — and plants everywhere. Warm yellow light dominates, soft music plays, and the room stays busy yet intimate.

The recorded menu centres on shared vegetarian eating: vegetarian hot pot with mushrooms, tofu, leafy greens and seasonal vegetables, noodles and rice to share — plus vegetable, tofu and mushroom bowls and plates in celadon bowls. All of it is unpriced and none of it carries the house's official names — ask at the restaurant. This is a family-meal and date-night room, not a laptop café: no laptops are anywhere in the dining room.
