Ebisu Udon — the Japanese corner shop

Udon & sushi · District 1 · 2A Chu Mạnh Trinh

Ebisu Udon needs no long telling: a wooden sign on the corner, a long wood counter at the center of the room, and tables set with blue-and-white ceramics. Warm light, burgundy stools, bamboo screens — a casual Japanese neighborhood eatery where udon and sushi share the table.

The house sits at 2A Chu Mạnh Trinh, Bến Nghé ward, District 1 — a corner shopfront with a large wooden sign panel: black えびす calligraphy, red EBISU and red うどんと寿司, udon and sushi. Full-height glass doors and windows glow with warm interior light out to the street, past a stone-tiled entrance step.

Inside is one compact main room, led by light-toned wood: the long counter, tabletops, ceiling beams and stool legs are all light wood, over a dark wood-look tile floor. Burgundy-upholstered high stools line the counter, and tall bamboo sudare screens divide the counter zone from the seating beside it. Warm white recessed spots, track lighting along the beam over the counter, and a warm arched pendant at the entrance — warm light across the room.

On the dark blue-grey wall hangs a large framed four-character calligraphy; behind the counter are back-shelf sake bottles and ceramic jars, red upright menu stands carrying Ebisu branding, and an artificial cherry-blossom branch. The priced a la carte tab lists 10 items from the restaurant's printed page; the udon and sushi tabs describe dish composition only, are not official names, and are unpriced — ask at the restaurant when you arrive.
