Upstairs in an aging apartment block on Pasteur, founder TA designed her own bar like painting a picture — then named it for Duke Ellington and filled it with the classics everyone else forgot.
Chapter 01
TA designed Ellington with no professional designer and no plan — in her words, 'a bit like painting a picture'. Crystal chandeliers, vintage mirrors, exposed brick: the room is a portrait of the person who made it.
Chapter 02
The bar is named for Duke Ellington, and the soundtrack follows the name: jazz, soul, funk, disco and R&B. Classics on the speakers, classics in the glass — the program runs on both.
Chapter 03
Head bartender Nguyen Hoang Bao Long runs the counter: reviving the Pink Squirrel and the French Connection, minding the growing Macallan selection, and keeping the room running to 2 AM every day.
